Running
As the recent article in Metro showed the debate about barefoot/minimalist running is continuing. The problem though for many of us occasional/fun runners is that a lot of focus has been on the footwear and not on the foot strike question. Put simply the traditional stride that most of us use is a long stride, impacting on our heels, down to mid-foot and push off with forefoot. Whereas the experienced minimal runners tend to take shorter strides and impact on the mid to forefoot, in fact their stride pattern is very like how many of us were taught to sprint at school!
The important point is this, don’t just kick off your structured, full support running shoes for a pair of minimal ones and carry on running the same distances.
You will need to start slow, run short distances and build up. You may need to think about adjusting your gait, but if you do, then at the very least do some research on it. Personally I would advise you to take advice from a running coach.
The aim of ECCO Biom running shoes is to allow the free, natural motion of the foot. This helps to strengthen both the foot and leg.
